The Shepparton Adviser
Various Positions
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Shepparton Adviser is the premier source of news, features and community stories for the Goulburn and Murray Valleys. We are expanding our remote team to support a range of functions that keep our readers informed, engaged and connected. Whether you are an editor, a digital content creator, a marketing specialist, a community liaison or a distribution coordinator, you will play a vital part in delivering timely, accurate and compelling journalism to a diverse audience. This is a chance to shape the narrative of a thriving regional community while working from anywhere in Australia.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will collaborate with senior editors to develop and refine news stories, ensuring factual accuracy and editorial integrity. You will manage our social media channels, crafting engaging posts that drive traffic and foster conversation across Facebook, Instagram, X and other platforms. In a community outreach capacity you will coordinate local events, partner with charities and schools, and solicit story ideas from residents. You will also support the logistics of print and digital distribution, monitoring delivery schedules and resolving any issues that arise. Finally, you will contribute to strategic planning sessions, offering insights that help us grow our readership and revenue streams.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
You have a minimum of three years’ experience in journalism, marketing, community engagement or a related field, with a proven track record of producing high‑quality content. Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills are essential, as are proficiency with CMS, social media management tools and basic graphic design. You are comfortable working independently, managing multiple deadlines, and communicating effectively with a dispersed team. A passion for local stories, an understanding of the Goulburn and Murray Valleys, and the ability to adapt to new technologies are highly valued.
WHY REMOTE
Our remote model is built on asynchronous collaboration, flexible schedules and a culture that values results over hours logged. You will have the freedom to work from any location that suits you, while staying connected through daily stand‑ups, weekly team meetings and real‑time chat. We believe that a distributed workforce brings diverse perspectives, increases productivity and supports work‑life balance, all of which contribute to the quality of the news we deliver.
BENEFITS
We offer comprehensive health coverage, a competitive paid time off package, a monthly remote working stipend, and a generous learning and development budget. Additional perks include access to industry events, a wellness program and a supportive community of like‑minded professionals. Join us and help shape the future of regional journalism while enjoying the flexibility and benefits of a remote career.
