Staff Technical Writer

ABOUT THE ROLE We're seeking a skilled Staff Technical Writer to join our Product Documentation team at Fivetran, a leading data infrastructure company. As a Staff Technical Writer, you will play a critical role in accelerating product adoption and user success by creating high-quality documentation that helps data practitioners learn, explore, and confidently use dbt. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Developer Experience, and customer-facing teams to balance deep product knowledge with a beginner's lens, creating accurate, easy-to-read documentation for humans and bots alike. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Technical Writer, your key responsibilities will include: - Writing new feature documentation for dbt, ensuring effective documentation plans and stakeholder engagement - Identifying and advocating for medium to large documentation projects, mentoring less-senior writers, and prioritizing high-impact work - Troubleshooting issue requests, analyzing data to evaluate solutions, and driving decisions - Peer reviewing documentation, providing insightful and compassionate feedback to peers - Collaborating with cross-functional teams to surface insights that drive product improvements WHAT YOU'LL NEED - 5+ years of experience in technical writing, with a strong background in creating high-quality documentation - Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills - Ability to balance technical and non-technical audiences, with a focus on clear and concise language - Experience with docs-as-code and docs-as-a-product approaches, preferably in an open-source model - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate solutions and drive decisions - Experience mentoring and leading junior writers, with a focus on knowledge sharing and growth WHY REMOTE As a remote employee, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere, while still being part of a collaborative and dynamic team.
