Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer - Databases SRE to join our team at Grafana Labs. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting our highest value Grafana Cloud customers by increasing the reliability of our Cloud databases based on Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope. Our databases are provided as a SaaS product from AWS, GCP, and Azure across all regions. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Software Engineer - Databases SRE, you will be responsible for ensuring the exceptional reliability of our database products for our highest-SLA customers. This will involve partnering closely with product engineering squads, owning production reliability for high-SLA and complex customer environments, designing and implementing automation to scale our reliability practices, and ensuring our customers meet our SLO targets. You will also define and evolve per-tenant SLOs and reliability models, proactively reduce SLO burn to prevent repeat incidents, serve as a primary escalation point and on-call for relevant incidents, lead customer-impacting incident response and post-incident reviews, contribute to design docs and code reviews, influence feature design to ensure production scalability and operability, build automation to eliminate toil where needed, and improve alert quality and reduce noisy escalations. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need 8+ years of engineering experience, with 4+ years in SRE/CRE/production engineering. Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure, and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet, etc.) are also required. Additionally, you should have experience operating multi-tenant systems in production, designing and implementing SLOs, and working with one or more programming languages (e.g. Go, Python, Java, etc). Experience with Linux operating systems internals, networking, cloud storage, and scaling is also desirable.
