ABOUT THE ROLE Coinbase is building the future of institutional trading as part of the Institutional Everything Exchange, powering the systems that enable the world’s largest financial institutions to trade across markets with speed, depth, and trust. As a Staff Infrastructure Engineer, you will own the infrastructure, deployment, and operational tooling behind a unified trading platform that runs across cloud and on‑prem/colocated venues. Your work will keep latency‑sensitive, multi‑node trading environments fast, reliable, and easy to build on, while shaping the foundation of the next generation of financial technology. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Own the end‑to‑end infrastructure, deployment, and operational tooling for latency‑sensitive, multi‑node trading environments across cloud and on‑prem. - Drive reliability and developer velocity by establishing observability, deploy safety, and incident response processes for systems that run 24/7. - Set the operational bar through standards, reviews, and automation, reducing single‑point‑of‑failure risk across the trading stack. - Partner with platform engineers to make latency‑sensitive systems operable and performant, translating product and market needs into robust engineering solutions. - Mentor engineers and build team resilience in a lean, high‑impact environment, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. - Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product, Institutional Markets, and SRE to turn platform needs into a strategic roadmap. WHAT YOU’LL NEED - Eight or more years of infrastructure, platform, or SRE engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of production systems at scale. - A proven track record of running infrastructure for latency‑sensitive trading environments, including on‑prem/colocated deployments, not generic platform work. - Deep proficiency with orchestration tooling, containerized and bare‑metal deployments, and observability/logging tooling. - Strong Linux performance and networking fundamentals in latency‑critical environments. - Experience delivering end‑to‑end solutions: scoping, implementation, deploy safety, monitoring, and incident response. - Prior experience in a regulated or financial environment where reliability and low‑latency performance are critical. - Ability to responsibly leverage generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business‑ready outputs and measurable workflow improvements.
