ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Social Media Manager to manage our content calendar, drive employee advocacy programs, and create engaging content specifically for developer audiences. This role requires someone who understands the developer community, has strong organizational skills, and can coordinate content creation across multiple channels while working closely with technical teams.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Staff Social Media Manager, you will be responsible for managing our content calendar, driving employee advocacy programs, and creating engaging content for developer audiences. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Creating, maintaining, and executing comprehensive social media content calendars across all platforms
- Coordinating content scheduling and publishing using Sprout Social
- Ensuring consistent posting cadence and optimal timing for our audiences
- Planning content themes around developer events, product releases, and industry trends
- Managing content approval workflows and deadlines
- Developing technical content that resonates with software developers, engineers, and technical decision-makers
- Creating tutorials, code snippets, technical tips, and developer-focused educational content
- Working with the Developer Advocacy team to translate complex technical concepts into engaging social media formats
- Collaborating with engineering teams to highlight technical innovations and features
- Managing daily social media activities across LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
- Monitoring developer communities and engaging in relevant conversations
- Optimizing posting times and content formats based on developer audience behavior
- Tracking and analyzing content performance with a focus on developer engagement metrics
- Preparing weekly and monthly performance reports
- Identifying high-performing content types and optimizing future posts
- Measuring employee advocacy program effectiveness
- Developing and executing team member advocacy programs to amplify GitLab's brand through employee voices
- Creating ready-to-share content for team members across all levels
- Managing social media presence for GitLab's executive suite, including content creation and coordination
- Drafting platform-specific posts for C-suite executives across major announcements, product launches, and thought leadership opportunities
- Coordinating executive amplification strategies for key company initiatives
- Training and supporting team members on social media best practices and brand guidelines
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 8+ years of social media marketing experience in a B2B SaaS or software company
- Experience creating content for technical or developer audiences
- Proven experience with social media management tools, specifically Sprout Social
- A track record of managing content calendars and meeting publishing deadlines
- Proficiency in Sprout Social for content scheduling, monitoring, and reporting
- Basic understanding of developer tools, programming concepts, and technical terminology
- Familiarity with graphic design tools (Canva, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite)
- Excellent written communication with the ability to adapt tone for developer audiences
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- A collaborative mindset and experience working with technical teams
- Self-motivation with the ability to work independently
