Staff Forward Deployed Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE The Staff Forward Deployed Engineer is a key member of GitLab's Forward Deployed Engineering team, responsible for providing technical stewardship to strategically important customers. This role requires a unique blend of product engineering expertise, customer-facing skills, and strategic thinking. As a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work closely with customers, product teams, and engineering teams to drive resolution of complex technical problems and contribute to the development of GitLab's product. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include: - Contributing production-quality code to GitLab's product and adjacent systems - Developing bug fixes, features, integrations, tooling, and performance improvements in response to strategic customer outcomes - Partnering with product and engineering teams to ensure customer-driven solutions align with long-term product direction - Identifying and resolving complex technical problems across GitLab product behavior, customer architecture, and other relevant areas - Coordinating with cross-functional teams to drive resolution from discovery through handoff - Providing recommendations grounded in data, traces, and systems analysis to improve GitLab usage, workflows, automation, and architecture - Driving governed, measurable, and production-oriented adoption of GitLab Duo Agent Platform with strategic customers - Identifying and resolving AI adoption blockers involving governance, usage controls, auditability, security, compliance, operating models, workflow design, and integrations WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - A strong background in software development and product engineering - Excellent communication and customer-facing skills - Ability to work effectively in a distributed team environment - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Experience with AI adoption and agentic software development lifecycle - Familiarity with GitLab's product and adjacent systems WHY REMOTE As a remote employee, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere and be part of a global team that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous knowledge exchange.
