Software Engineer, Security Platform

ABOUT THE ROLE Coinbase is building the next generation of financial infrastructure and security is the foundation of that vision. As a Software Engineer on the Security Platform Engineering team you will design, build, and operate the core services that protect billions of dollars in digital assets and safeguard the privacy and compliance of our global customer base. You will work alongside product, design, and senior leadership to translate high‑level security strategy into reliable, scalable systems that underpin every product at Coinbase. Your work will directly influence the safety, resilience, and trust that our users place in the platform. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will architect and develop secure, cloud‑native services in Golang or Java that support secrets management, identity and access, on‑chain security, policy enforcement, and vulnerability remediation. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define quarterly roadmaps, prioritise initiatives, and deliver production‑ready code that meets stringent reliability and compliance standards. Your responsibilities include reviewing feature designs for security, scalability, and operational integrity, mentoring junior engineers, and driving continuous improvement in coding practices and system observability. You will also own the long‑term vision for scaling backend infrastructure and ensuring that the platform can evolve with emerging regulatory and threat landscapes. WHAT YOU'LL NEED You bring at least three years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of designing, deploying, and maintaining production‑grade services in a service‑oriented architecture. Strong proficiency in Golang or Java, coupled with deep knowledge of distributed systems, secure coding, and cloud security best practices, is essential. You are comfortable solving complex problems, writing clean, well‑tested code, and communicating technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. A passion for open financial systems, a bias for transparency, and a commitment to responsible use of generative AI to enhance workflow efficiency will set you apart. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset are required.
