MongoDB
Site Reliability Engineer (Senior or Staff), Infrastructure Security
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
MongoDB’s Site Reliability Engineering team is the guardian of our cloud‑native infrastructure, ensuring that the Atlas platform remains secure, resilient, and compliant at scale. As a Senior or Staff Site Reliability Engineer – Infrastructure Security, you will lead the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of security controls across AWS, Azure, and GCP. You will be a hands‑on technical leader who mentors a small group of SREs, drives cross‑team collaboration, and shapes the security posture of the entire data platform. Your work will directly protect the data of over 67,000 customers, including a majority of the Fortune 100, and enable them to innovate safely in the AI era.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will architect and implement cloud security solutions, integrating IAM, VPC, security groups, and native CSPM services such as GuardDuty, Security Hub, and CloudTrail. You will build automated pipelines for real‑time monitoring, logging, and alerting, leveraging Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible to codify security policies. You will evaluate and deploy third‑party tools for endpoint protection and runtime scanning, ensuring they fit seamlessly into our multi‑cloud environment. You will collaborate with product, platform, and compliance teams to translate regulatory requirements into enforceable controls. You will coach junior SREs, conduct code reviews, and drive a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence. Finally, you will own incident response processes, leading post‑mortem analyses to strengthen our defenses.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
You have 6+ years of SRE or infrastructure engineering experience with a strong focus on security, and at least 2 years in a senior or staff role. You possess deep knowledge of cloud security fundamentals, from OS networking to provider‑specific configurations, and have led projects in runtime scanning, CSPM, and security observability. You are proficient in at least one programming language, preferably Golang, and have hands‑on experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible. You understand Linux internals, networking protocols, and how they interact in complex distributed systems. You can articulate complex security concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and you have a proven track record of mentoring small teams while delivering high‑impact results. You thrive in an async, distributed environment and are comfortable working across time zones.
