Senior Staff Software Engineer, Payments

ABOUT THE ROLE As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Payments, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of Airbnb's Payments organization. This team is responsible for building and operating scalable systems that power payments ecosystems, host/guest protections, and community partner experiences. You will be part of a global marketplace that connects hosts and guests in almost every country across the globe. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Payments, you will be responsible for providing overarching guardrails on the evolution of the architecture, focusing on Community Partner experiences. You will design decision support systems, knowledge management systems, and workflow orchestration systems that harness various AI advancements. You will define and drive the architecture strategy, work on cross-functional teams to align on organizational initiatives, set standards, and help in governance. You will be a player-coach, hands-on when necessary and hands-off when opportunities arise for other engineers to grow and gain experience. Your responsibilities will include: - Collaborating with senior leaders to define and drive long-term technical strategy and architecture - Establishing a technical vision and leading efforts to architect, build, and launch reliable, performant, and scalable solutions - Providing a balanced view of the technology landscape and nurturing a culture of sustainable innovation - Collaborating with cross-functional partners to design and deliver high-quality products - Leading multi-team technical initiatives and working cross-functionally to identify opportunities for business impact - Aligning technical efforts with business outcomes and product priorities - Upleveling engineering quality through design/code reviews, mentorship, and hands-on implementation - Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - 15+ years of experience in a hands-on software engineering role - Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience - Experience building, leading, and architecting production systems or features with broad impact - Demonstrated technical leadership, including hands-on experience leading project teams and setting technical direction and strategy - Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical partners - Passion to level-up those around you through curiosity and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment - Proven experience in defining product/technical strategy and driving alignment with cross-functional leaders and stakeholders WHY REMOTE This position is eligible for remote work within India. While occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required, the majority of your work will be done remotely.
