Senior Software Engineer, Frontend (Platform - Identity)

ABOUT THE ROLE Coinbase is building the next generation of financial infrastructure, and the Identity team is at the heart of that mission. As a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend you will own the user‑facing experiences that secure every interaction with the platform, from login and signup to OAuth, multi‑factor authentication, and account security. Your work will directly impact millions of users, ensuring that every authentication flow is fast, reliable, and compliant with evolving regulatory standards. You will collaborate with product, design, security, and backend teams to translate complex requirements into elegant, maintainable code that powers the core of Coinbase’s platform. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Lead end‑to‑end frontend projects, driving design, implementation, deployment, and monitoring for authentication surfaces across web and mobile. - Author and review technical design documents, breaking down ambiguous initiatives into clear, actionable plans for cross‑functional teams. - Shape the Native vs. Webview architecture strategy, evaluating latency, reliability, and user experience trade‑offs to deliver consistent, secure flows. - Proactively identify and eliminate technical debt across the codebase, raising the bar for quality, performance, and developer velocity. - Own team rituals such as on‑call rotations, code review standards, and incident response, while mentoring junior engineers on frontend craftsmanship and ownership. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - Five or more years of production frontend experience with React and TypeScript, having independently delivered complex, ambiguous projects from concept to production. - Proven track record of authoring and driving technical design documents through cross‑functional review and successful implementation on at least two major initiatives. - Deep understanding of authentication protocols, security best practices, and the ability to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions. - Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and leading team rituals, including on‑call management, code review, and incident response. - Strong problem‑solving skills, a commitment to code quality, and a habit of proactively addressing systemic technical debt. - Ability to responsibly leverage generative AI tools while maintaining human oversight to deliver business‑ready outputs and measurable workflow improvements.
