Senior Platform Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE We're on a mission to make money work for everyone. As a Senior Engineer at Monzo, you'll play a critical role in building and maintaining the infrastructure, tools, and processes that enable our technology teams to succeed. You'll be part of the Platform Collective, working on a wide range of shared infrastructure, services, and engineer tooling. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Platform Engineer at Monzo, you'll work across the full breadth of our core infrastructure and application platform. This role involves a balanced split of responsibilities between two critical areas: Platform & Infrastructure Engineering: Enhancing and maintaining our foundational tools and systems. This includes working hands-on with our Kubernetes clusters, AWS infrastructure, and configuration management using Terraform. You'll also integrate and manage various open-source components to provide robust, scalable primitives for our engineering teams. Software & Backend Engineering: Building and maintaining the services that abstract and orchestrate our infrastructure. This includes designing and implementing backend services (APIs, controllers, etc.) that provide a simplified, self-service experience for other engineers. You'll also develop software for complex projects like infrastructure migrations, high-scale traffic management, or security tooling. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you'll need: - Strong experience in platform and infrastructure engineering, with a focus on cloud infrastructure and containerization - Proficiency in languages such as Go, Python, or Java - Experience with configuration management tools like Terraform - Familiarity with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently - Excellent communication and collaboration skills WHY REMOTE As a remote-friendly company, we value flexibility and autonomy. Our main tech hub is in London, but our engineers live everywhere in the UK. We believe you'll do your best work if you're where you want to be. If you live outside of London and we ask you to come into the office, Monzo will support you with the costs.
