ABOUT THE ROLE Marqeta is seeking a Senior Manager, Benefits to lead the design, strategy, and day‑to‑day execution of our U.S. and global benefits programs. In this senior leadership position you will set the vision for employee wellbeing, partner with People, Payroll, Finance, and Legal, and ensure the benefits function scales with the company’s growth. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will own the benefits strategy, roadmap, and program design, ensuring offerings remain competitive, cost‑effective, and aligned with our Total Rewards philosophy. You will evaluate performance, market trends, and recommend plan changes, new offerings, and cost‑management initiatives. You will define and track key metrics—cost, utilization, participation, and employee satisfaction—and use data to inform decisions and demonstrate impact. Working closely with Finance, you will manage budgeting, forecasting, and cost modeling. You will lead and develop the benefits team, mentoring staff and coordinating work with brokers and vendors. Building strong cross‑functional partnerships with People, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and Talent, you will translate complex program and compliance topics into clear guidance for leadership. You will set process standards, continuously improve operations, and manage vendor strategy, selection, negotiations, contracts, and renewals. Operational responsibilities include overseeing benefits records in Workday, reconciling enrollments with payroll, leading enrollment audits, system implementations, and communication campaigns. You will manage benefits integration for mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures and resolve data or process gaps. You will shape the employee experience from onboarding through life events, handle complex escalations, and design engaging communications. You will own the annual Open Enrollment cycle, including strategy, planning, testing, and reconciliation, and plan wellness events throughout the year. Compliance and governance duties include ensuring adherence to ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, NDT, and 5500 filings, monitoring legislative changes, and advising leadership on necessary adjustments. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - 8+ years of progressive U.S. benefits experience, with a focus on program strategy and design. - 3+ years leading a benefits function, managing staff, and directing work through brokers and vendors. - Proven ownership of complete benefits renewal cycles, including strategy, negotiation, open enrollment, and reconciliation. - Deep expertise in health and welfare programs and benefits compliance (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, NDT, 5500s). - Experience scaling benefits at technology companies, thriving amid growth and ambiguity. - Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
