Stripe
Product Manager, Sail Core
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
Stripe’s Sail Core team powers the frontend platform that underpins more than 50 product teams, including the high‑traffic Dashboard. As the Product Manager for Sail Core, you will shape the strategy and roadmap for this critical platform, ensuring that developers across Stripe can ship features quickly, reliably, and with a stellar experience. You will own the balance between long‑term architectural health and the short‑term needs of teams, driving large‑scale modernization initiatives while maintaining strict quality and performance standards. In this role you will be the single voice that translates complex technical decisions into clear business outcomes, and you will champion a culture of data‑driven, developer‑centric product thinking.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the product strategy and roadmap for Stripe’s frontend platform, aligning with the broader product and engineering vision.
- Lead the largest frontend modernization effort, orchestrating migration plans, dependency management, and stakeholder alignment across multiple teams.
- Define and track key metrics—latency, build times, reliability SLOs—to inform trade‑off decisions and measure impact.
- Serve as the product advocate in deeply technical discussions around API surface design, framework deprecation sequencing, and migration tooling.
- Partner with engineering, design, and business stakeholders to prioritize features that deliver measurable developer experience improvements.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, from engineers to executives, ensuring shared understanding of goals and trade‑offs.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 7+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years on platform, infrastructure, or developer tools teams.
- Deep technical fluency in frontend web development: JavaScript, TypeScript, React component models, build systems, and performance optimization.
- Proven track record of leading large‑scale migrations or platform transitions across multiple teams, including sequencing, dependency management, and stakeholder alignment.
- Demonstrated use of quantitative metrics to drive platform investment decisions; you have defined and owned the metrics, not just tracked them.
- Strong partnership skills, able to collaborate with engineering to make architectural trade‑offs grounded in user impact.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to engineers, designers, and senior leaders in a clear, concise manner.
- Preferred: an engineering background with professional frontend experience, experience in legacy extraction or monolith decomposition, and a passion for fast, high‑quality software.
