ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Principal Solutions Architect, AI / Core DevOps SME, you will be at the forefront of integrating advanced artificial‑intelligence capabilities into our core DevOps services. Your work will shape how developers and operations teams automate and accelerate delivery pipelines, ensuring that GitLab remains the most powerful, secure, and user‑friendly DevOps platform in the world. You will partner with product, engineering, and customer success to translate complex business challenges into scalable, AI‑driven solutions that deliver measurable value to millions of users.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead the design and implementation of AI‑enhanced DevOps workflows, including predictive analytics for pipeline failures, automated code quality checks, and intelligent resource allocation.
- Serve as the technical authority on core GitLab CI/CD architecture, Kubernetes integration, and cloud‑native infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
- Mentor cross‑functional teams on best practices for MLOps, observability, and data‑driven decision making, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with product managers to define AI feature roadmaps, translate user stories into technical specifications, and prioritize backlog items that maximize impact.
- Represent GitLab at industry events, conferences, and in technical forums, positioning the company as a thought leader in AI‑powered DevOps.
- Drive the adoption of emerging technologies such as serverless, edge computing, and reinforcement learning within the GitLab ecosystem, evaluating trade‑offs and guiding architectural decisions.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 10+ years of experience in software architecture, with at least 5 years focused on DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud‑native platforms.
- Deep expertise in AI/ML operations, including model training pipelines, inference serving, and data pipeline orchestration.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, Helm, and major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Proven track record of delivering complex, high‑scale systems that serve millions of concurrent users.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate ambiguous requirements into robust, maintainable architectures.
- Excellent communication and influence skills, capable of articulating technical concepts to both engineering and non‑technical stakeholders.
