Monzo
Platform Engineer
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're seeking a highly skilled Platform Engineer to join our team at Monzo, a leading digital banking platform. As a Platform Engineer, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the infrastructure, tools, and processes that enable our technology teams to succeed. You will work on a wide range of shared infrastructure, services, and engineer tooling, with a focus on Kubernetes clusters, service mesh, and networking.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Platform Engineer at Monzo, you will be responsible for a balanced split of responsibilities between two critical areas: Platform and Infrastructure Engineering, and Software and Backend Engineering. This will involve:
- Enhancing and maintaining our foundational tools and systems, working hands-on with Kubernetes clusters, AWS infrastructure, and configuration management using Terraform.
- Integrating and managing various open-source components to provide robust, scalable primitives for our engineering teams.
- Building and maintaining the services that abstract and orchestrate our infrastructure, designing and implementing backend services (APIs, controllers, etc.) that provide a simplified, self-service experience for other engineers.
- Developing software for complex projects like infrastructure migrations, high-scale traffic management, or security tooling.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Strong experience in cloud infrastructure, preferably with AWS and GCP.
- Proficiency in programming languages, such as Go, and experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and other open-source components.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
WHY REMOTE
As a remote worker at Monzo, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK, with the option to meet in person with colleagues in our London tech hub. We value meeting in person, but there is no pressure to come into the office, even if you are nearby. We believe you will do your best work if you are where you want to be.
BENEFITS
- Competitive salary of £65,000 - £80,000 per year.
- Incentive awards tied to your performance.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health plan, parental leave, and education stipend.
- Flexible schedule and remote work options.
- Opportunities for professional growth and development, with a focus on cloud infrastructure and software engineering.
