Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE Aecon is seeking a Locator to support its Utility and Private Utility projects in Ottawa and Cambridge. The role reports to the Locates Supervisor and focuses on accurately locating underground utilities for gas, electricity, telecommunications, water, and sewer systems. The position is unionized and requires joining the union upon acceptance. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will use utility record systems and electronic locating equipment to safely identify underground utilities. Field marks and documents locates in the company’s locate work management software, following established procedures. You will complete locate requests assigned by Forepersons, Coordinators, or Superintendents in a timely manner and utilize infrastructure records to plan and execute locates. Operating a company‑provided vehicle, you will travel to and from work sites, plan routes, and work as part of locate project teams. Communication with internal and external contacts—including Superintendents, Foremen, Coordinators, and clients—will be essential. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. WHAT YOU'LL NEED A valid Ontario (G) Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required. You should be self‑motivated, organized, and able to multitask while working independently under minimal supervision. The ability to work long hours to meet deadlines, maintain accuracy under pressure, and prioritize tasks is essential. Professional customer interaction skills are necessary. Strong computer proficiency in work‑management software, email, MS Excel, and MS Word is expected. Experience with public, private, pre‑engineering locates, and Vital Main Integrity (gas distribution third‑party observation) is an asset, as is prior construction experience. DPT Certification is considered a strong asset. WHY REMOTE This role is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere while supporting Aecon’s high‑impact infrastructure projects across Canada. BENEFITS Pay ranges from $29 to $39 per hour, determined by location, education, experience, and job conditions.
