Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel, Product to join our team at Monzo, a leading digital bank on a mission to make money work for everyone. As a key member of our Legal Team, you will play a critical role in providing first-rate legal advice and support to our Product Collective, helping us build innovative banking products that improve our customers' financial lives.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Legal Counsel, Product, you will work closely with our Product Collective to build and deliver banking products, including personal banking, borrowing, and payments. You will provide legal advice to senior lawyers, product managers, and engineers, and collaborate with teams across Monzo, including Compliance, Risk and Control, and Operations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing legal advice on product development and growth, including personal and business banking products
- Triage product legal queries, resolving them or escalating to senior lawyers where necessary
- Partnering with product managers to advise on legal matters related to our banking products
- Developing efficient ways of working to enable Monzo to scale quickly, ensuring we operate safely and in accordance with the law and regulation
- Coordinating and collaborating on legal matters with teams across Monzo
- Providing training and knowledge sharing on the impact of laws and regulations on Monzo or our customers
- Advising product managers or other colleagues on legal issues, identifying risks, and finding effective solutions
- Helping to build a world-class and scalable Legal Team by testing and developing new ways of working, including AI tools
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A qualified law degree (or soon to qualify) with experience working in the banking and finance sector
- Experience advising on legal and regulatory issues related to banking products
- Experience advising on laws and regulations relevant to financial services, particularly payments and banking products
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise, and practical legal advice
