Monzo
Lead Market Researcher
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
Monzo is on a mission to make money work for everyone, and the next chapter of that mission is expansion across Europe. The Lead Market Researcher will sit at the heart of the Next Markets team, shaping the evidence that drives Monzo’s entry strategy into new EU markets. Working closely with Strategy, Product, Data, Design and Marketing, you will own the customer and market insights that inform every decision from product positioning to go‑to‑market tactics. Your research will help Monzo identify where the strongest opportunities lie, how our proposition should evolve, and how to build confidence in unfamiliar markets.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will design and lead the research agenda for new‑market entry, starting with discovery across multiple EU countries. You will develop a repeatable, scalable market‑entry research framework that balances depth, speed and confidence. You will build a clear view of local money behaviours, banking expectations, customer needs, trust drivers and barriers to adoption, and translate those insights into actionable recommendations. You will identify, understand and size priority customer audiences, partnering closely with Data and Product to validate assumptions. You will set a high bar for evidence quality, triangulating across sources and challenging assumptions when evidence does not support them. You will synthesize complex evidence into concise narratives, trade‑offs and confidence levels that guide business, product and marketing decisions. You will choose the right research approach for each question, combining hands‑on research, AI, specialist expertise and agency support where appropriate.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
You have significant experience in customer research or consumer insight, with a proven track record of shaping strategy and business outcomes. You are comfortable tackling ambiguous, early‑stage problems such as market entry, proposition development and audience strategy. You have conducted research across multiple markets and navigated meaningful cultural and market differences. Your quantitative skills include segmentation and audience sizing, and you possess strong methodological judgement, knowing when to deploy qualitative depth or other specialized techniques. You can connect customer insight to product, brand, marketing, commercial and go‑to‑market decisions, and you communicate complex research in clear, persuasive narratives. You are confident influencing senior cross‑functional stakeholders and thrive in fast‑moving environments, knowing when deeper research is needed and when directional evidence is sufficient.
WHY REMOTE
The role is based in the UK and can be fully remote, with occasional ad‑hoc meetings in London. Monzo’s distributed, async culture empowers you to work at times that suit you and your team, while still collaborating seamlessly across functions. Flexible hours and a trust‑based approach mean you can deliver high‑impact research without being tied to a fixed schedule, allowing you to balance work and life while driving Monzo’s expansion strategy.
BENEFITS
Monzo offers comprehensive health coverage, a generous paid time off policy, a remote working stipend, and a £1,000 annual learning budget for books, courses and conferences. You will receive a MacBook and, if fully remote, additional support for your home office setup. Additional benefits include competitive salary, performance‑linked incentive awards, visa sponsorship, relocation support and a culture that values continuous learning and inclusion.
