Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a dedicated Justice Officer Grounds and Services to support the daily operations of a state‑wide correctional facility. In this full‑time position you will play a key role in maintaining safe, orderly, and compliant prison grounds, while coordinating essential services such as deliveries, meals, laundry, and property management. Your work will directly contribute to the safety and well‑being of staff, inmates, and the broader community, ensuring that the facility operates smoothly and in accordance with Victorian regulations. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will plan and execute daily maintenance tasks across the prison grounds, including lawn care, plant maintenance, and walkway upkeep. You will manage the safe transport of goods and supplies throughout the facility, adhering to strict schedules and security protocols. You will load, unload, inspect, and operate light delivery vehicles and equipment, ensuring all operations meet safety and regulatory standards. You will assist with meal preparation, laundry services, store operations, and minor maintenance projects, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to meet the facility’s needs. You will also prepare daily work plans, prioritise tasks, and report any incidents or maintenance issues to the relevant supervisors. WHAT YOU'LL NEED You must hold a current Victorian driver’s licence with a clean driving record and demonstrate strong driving skills. Prior experience in maintenance, logistics, or a related field is highly desirable, as is a forklift licence or equivalent machinery operation experience. You should possess excellent organisational skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a proactive approach to safety and compliance. You will have a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
