Industry Officer

ABOUT THE ROLE As an Industry Officer with the Department of Justice and Community Safety, you will play a vital role in helping people build practical skills for life after prison. This is a challenging yet rewarding position where you will train prisoners in real workplaces across varied industry settings, enjoy hands-on work, and contribute to building safer communities through meaningful work. WHAT YOU'LL DO As an Industry Officer, your primary responsibilities will include training and supervising prisoners in commercial and service industry work areas, maintaining safe workplaces, monitoring production and stock, and coaching prisoners to build practical skills and improve future employment opportunities. You will also work with your team to improve processes, complete reports, and meet production goals. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will require a trade qualification or relevant experience in cabinet making, joinery, timber or metal fabrication. A current forklift licence is preferred. You should also have experience working in a trade or industrial setting while meeting production targets, knowledge of prison industry procedures, and understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and safe work practices. Strong teamwork, resilience, and communication skills with a focus on continuous improvement are also essential. WHY REMOTE This is a full-time, ongoing role based in a prison industry setting. You will be working in a supportive team environment, with opportunities to make a positive impact on the lives of prisoners and contribute to building safer communities. BENEFITS The successful candidate will earn a salary of $85,787 - $98,651 per year, plus superannuation. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
