Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE Monzo is redefining banking by combining cutting‑edge technology with a customer‑first mindset. As a Finance Internal Controls Analyst you will help safeguard the integrity of our financial operations while driving continuous improvement across the organisation. You will work closely with the Finance team, senior stakeholders and the first and second lines of defence to strengthen Monzo’s internal control framework and support the bank’s growth ambitions. Your work will directly influence how we manage risk, comply with regulatory requirements and deliver a seamless experience for our millions of users. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will design, implement and monitor key financial controls, ensuring they remain robust and aligned with industry best practices. You will conduct detailed process walkthroughs, identify control gaps and recommend remediation actions, collaborating with business owners to embed effective controls into day‑to‑day operations. You will analyse control performance data, develop dashboards and produce concise reports for senior management, translating complex findings into actionable insights. You will support internal and external audit engagements, providing evidence of control effectiveness and coordinating remediation plans. Additionally, you will evaluate opportunities for automation in routine reporting and control monitoring, leveraging tools such as Looker, SQL and BigQuery to increase efficiency. Your role will also involve drafting policy updates, training materials and guiding the finance team on control best practices. WHAT YOU'LL NEED You are a qualified accountant or close to qualification, with proven experience in internal controls, audit or SOX 404 within financial services or a comparable sector. A solid technical background in SAP, Blackline or similar ERP systems is highly desirable. You possess a meticulous eye for detail, strong analytical skills and a problem‑solving mindset. You are comfortable working across cultures and levels, and can communicate complex technical information clearly to both finance and non‑finance audiences. You thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment and take initiative to drive projects forward. Familiarity with data analytics, dashboard creation and programming concepts is a plus. You are a self‑starter who enjoys tackling new challenges and collaborating with cross‑functional teams. WHY REMOTE Monzo embraces a distributed, asynchronous culture that empowers teams to work from anywhere in the UK. We trust you to manage your own schedule, balancing focused work with collaboration across time zones. Remote work enables you to maintain a healthy work‑life balance while staying connected to a vibrant, inclusive community through regular virtual touchpoints, knowledge‑sharing sessions and occasional in‑office gatherings in London or Cardiff. The flexibility we provide allows you to bring your best self to work, whether that means early mornings, late evenings or a mix of both. BENEFITS Monzo offers a competitive salary band of £48,500 to £57,500 plus a performance‑linked incentive award. You will receive comprehensive health coverage, a generous paid time off policy and a dedicated remote working stipend to optimise your home office. Each year you will receive a £1,000 learning budget for books, courses and conferences. In addition, you will have access to a MacBook and, if fully remote, extra support for your home‑office setup. Monzo also provides a supportive environment that encourages continuous learning, career growth and a culture of inclusion.
