ABOUT THE ROLE Reed is partnering with one of the UK’s leading multi‑discipline Civil Engineering and Building contractors to fill a key Estimator position. The role is central to the company’s growth strategy, providing accurate cost forecasts that enable the business to win high‑value contracts and deliver projects on budget. As a Civils Estimator you will work closely with design teams, suppliers, subcontractors and senior management to translate complex technical drawings into detailed, competitive bids that reflect current market conditions and project risks. The position offers a clear path to seniority, with opportunities to lead larger tenders, mentor junior staff and influence the company’s pricing strategy across multiple disciplines. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will prepare tender estimates from first principles using Conquest estimating software, drawing on your knowledge of construction techniques, subcontractor pricing and material costs. You will conduct site visits to assess site‑specific complexities and access requirements, ensuring that every estimate accurately reflects on‑site realities. You will lead negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors, securing favourable terms and building strong commercial relationships. You will collaborate with senior colleagues to review and sign‑off pre‑tender estimates, and participate in client meetings to align expectations and clarify scope. After award, you will hand over estimates to contract and commercial teams, ensuring all stakeholders understand the project’s financial baseline and risk profile. WHAT YOU'LL NEED A HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering and at least two years of experience in an estimating department. You must have a deep understanding of construction outputs, cost drivers and how they translate into market values for tendering. You should be proficient in creating bills of quantities from drawings, either by hand or through Conquest Series Q, and comfortable with Microsoft Excel, Word and Project. You must be able to prioritise and manage multiple tender opportunities in a fast‑moving environment with minimal supervision. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to translate technical details into clear commercial arguments are essential.
