Engineering Manager - Content API (f/m/d)

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager - Content API to lead a high-performing, remote-first web development team in Europe. The successful candidate will drive Contentful's technical strategy for content and entity reusability, enhancing the management capabilities of the platform to enable re-use of core content entities and establishing strong governance systems for Enterprise organisations. WHAT YOU'LL DO As an Engineering Manager - Content API, you will partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between technical goals and business objectives. You will lead and grow a globally-distributed web development team, defining the team roadmap and collaborating with Product and Design to craft and execute it. You will work closely with stakeholders in Product, Design, Research, Infrastructure, and Security to translate business needs into technical solutions, ensuring seamless integration of the CMS & Editorial Experience with the rest of Contentful's ecosystem. You will oversee the technical approach for integrating and scaling the platform's content management features, ensuring that the architecture remains performant, secure, and scalable as user needs grow. You will guide the team through solutioning, coding, testing, and deployment, ensuring adherence to best practices in coding, architecture, and testing. You will mentor junior and senior developers, promoting technical excellence and helping to build individual and team growth through hands-on leadership and ongoing feedback. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need: - 2+ years of experience leading development teams, with a track record of delivering complex, high-impact technical solutions. - Proficiency in web technologies (e.g., TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js) and familiarity with headless CMS platforms (preferably Contentful). - Experience optimizing performance and scalability, handling complex content structures and large datasets. - Ability to balance innovation with immediate impact, overseeing technical delivery while driving team capabilities and capacity. - Strong mentoring track record, fostering a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and quality within a distributed team. - Experience with people management, including performance reviews, check-ins, and calibration sessions. - Familiarity with API-first platforms, Enterprise governance models, data privacy and security best practices, and content modelling concepts.
