DP OPERATOR

ABOUT THE ROLE Saipem Drilling Norway is seeking a skilled DP Operator to join the crew of the Scarabeo 8 drilling rig. In this role you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the dynamic positioning system, ensuring the vessel remains precisely positioned during drilling operations. Your work will support the rig’s mission to deliver high‑quality offshore drilling services while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship. You will collaborate closely with the navigation, engineering, and drilling teams to optimize vessel performance and respond swiftly to changing sea conditions. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will operate the DP control system, monitoring vessel motion, wind, current, and other environmental factors to maintain position within regulatory limits. You will conduct pre‑deployment checks, run simulations, and adjust DP parameters in real time to accommodate drilling activities and crew movements. You will record and analyze DP performance data, preparing reports for the vessel master and the onshore DP team. You will troubleshoot system faults, coordinate with the maintenance crew to schedule preventive maintenance, and ensure all DP logs are accurate and up to date. You will participate in daily safety briefings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing DP reliability and efficiency. WHAT YOU'LL NEED You must hold an Unlimited DP Operator Certificate issued by The Nautical Institute and have a minimum of three years’ experience operating DP systems on offshore vessels. You should possess a solid understanding of DP theory, vessel dynamics, and marine navigation principles. Proficiency with DP control software, such as Kongsberg or Navis, and Microsoft Office applications is essential. You must demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to make quick decisions under pressure, and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. Excellent communication skills are required, as you will liaise with on‑board teams and shore‑based support. A proactive attitude toward continuous learning and adherence to Saipem’s safety and quality standards are mandatory.
