Communications Generalist

ABOUT THE ROLE Coinbase is on a mission to increase economic freedom through the power of digital assets. As a Communications Generalist you will be at the forefront of shaping how the public perceives Coinbase and the broader crypto ecosystem. You will partner with product, policy, legal, and executive teams to craft narratives that protect and grow our reputation in a fast‑moving, highly regulated industry. Your work will influence product launches, crisis response, and day‑to‑day media engagement, ensuring that Coinbase’s voice remains clear, consistent, and compelling. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Own proactive communications plans for company launches and announcements, from messaging development through media outreach and post‑launch measurement. - Drive media relations by responding to inbound inquiries, pitching stories, staffing interviews, and managing reporter relationships across crypto and mainstream press. - Develop content across channels, including messaging frameworks, blog posts, social copy, and web materials that align with Coinbase’s brand voice and communications strategy. - Prepare spokespeople for media appearances by crafting briefing documents with key messages, anticipated questions, and strategic guidance. - Lead rapid‑response communications for crisis and issues management, partnering with Legal, Policy, and executive leadership to deliver clear, timely narratives under pressure. - Analyze media coverage and internal metrics to refine strategies and demonstrate impact to stakeholders. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - 7+ years of communications experience at a PR agency or in‑house team, with at least 2 years focused on crypto or fintech. - Proven media relations track record, including established relationships with crypto press and demonstrated success in placing proactive stories and managing reactive cycles. - Exceptional writing and editing skills with a portfolio of clear, concise prose that translates complex crypto and technology topics for mainstream audiences. - Direct experience supporting executive communications programs, including spokesperson preparation, media briefings, and message development for senior leaders. - Demonstrated ability to work in high‑pressure, fast‑paced environments, managing multiple projects with tight deadlines. - Proficiency in using generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business‑ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
