ABOUT THE ROLE
Stripe is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to lead our regulatory compliance, financial crimes and enterprise risk officers and program across Asia-Pacific. As the principal decision-maker and strategic lead on regulatory compliance, financial crime and enterprise risk management for APAC, you will play a critical role in ensuring Stripe's continued safe growth in the region. You will serve as the formal CCO for Stripe's Singapore-regulated entity and be the public face of the compliance team across APAC, serving as a primary point of contact with regulators, financial partners, and internal stakeholders.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As the Chief Compliance Officer for APAC, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust and scalable compliance strategy for the region, aligning with global objectives and business goals. You will drive a culture of compliance and sound regulatory risk management across the region as Stripe expands its product offerings in existing markets and enters new ones. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing a robust and scalable compliance strategy for APAC, aligning with global FinCRO objectives and business goals
- Owning and enhancing the regional AML, counter-terrorist financing, sanctions, and anti-bribery and corruption (ABC) programs for APAC
- Serving as the primary point of contact for financial regulators across APAC and an ambassador to the industry in the region
- Building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with key financial partners, including banks, payment networks, and other third-party providers
- Ensuring Stripe's global regulatory compliance, financial crimes and ERM frameworks, policies, and controls are fit for purpose for local requirements across APAC
- Providing expert guidance to business stakeholders on market expansion, product development, and operational changes to ensure compliance by design
- Overseeing drafting and implementation of local policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure licensing commitments and legal conditions are met
- Managing production of regulatory compliance performance reports for APAC management and Boards
- Leading responses to audits and regulatory assessments, and owning remediation of findings and development of corrective action plans in partnership with relevant business owners
- Leading, mentoring, and inspiring a high-performing team of compliance and financial crimes professionals across APAC
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 12+ years of experience in compliance and financial crime, with significant focus on financial services, fintech, or payments, including direct experience in a senior compliance role in APAC
- Extensive people management experience, including leading geographically dispersed teams through organizational and regulatory change
- Deep and current knowledge of regulatory compliance and AML/financial crime requirements across key APAC markets, with particular expertise in Singapore (MAS) and Australia
- Demonstrated experience interacting directly with financial regulators in APAC, including managing supervisory relationships, license applications, and regulatory change processes
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex regulatory concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, and to represent Stripe externally with credibility and authority
- Ability to think strategically and translate complex regulatory concepts into actionable plans
