Mixpanel
Staff Design Engineer
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're seeking a highly skilled Staff Design Engineer to lead the transformation of our design system at Mixpanel. As a key member of our design organization, you'll play a critical role in shaping the future of our product and driving innovation in an AI-native world. You'll be responsible for encoding our design standards, principles, and taste into systems that live in the code, building a token system, component library, documentation, and guidelines that AI agents, AI coding tools, and AI prototyping workflows can reliably build on.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build the infrastructure for an AI-native design practice by translating Mixpanel's design standards, principles, and taste into systems that live in the code.
- Shape how Mixpanel looks and behaves in an AI-native world by collaborating with the product design team to reimagine our product for a world where interfaces are conversational, agentic, and adaptive.
- Own the bridge between design and code by building systems that connect design to code and keep the two in sync, defining what "shippable" looks like as AI writes more of the code, and shipping PRs that improve the product.
- Stand up prototyping and AI tooling infrastructure by building workflows, tools, and infrastructure that let designers and PMs prototype at high fidelity, with working code, real components, and interactive states, without waiting on engineering.
- Set and model the craft bar by establishing what great looks like through the quality of what you ship, enabling designers to work more code-adjacent and engineers to build with better components, and staying ahead of how AI is changing EPD workflows.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Proficiency in modern front-end frameworks, including React, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and Next.js.
- Experience with design systems, ideally having built or overhauled one at scale.
- Strong design sensibility, with a focus on craft, consistency, interaction quality, and taste.
- Fluency in AI-assisted workflows, including canvas-to-code, code-to-canvas, AI prototyping tools, MCP integrations, and emerging technologies in this space.
- Experience working with tools like Figma, Storybook, VSCode, Chromatic, and GitHub.
- A track record of working across design and engineering, with the ability to collaborate across both disciplines.
- Comfortable operating with high autonomy, setting direction, influencing standards, and managing complex projects without a lot of hand-holding.
- 8+ years of experience in design engineering, UX engineering, design technology, or a related hybrid role.
WHY REMOTE
As a remote employee, you'll have the flexibility to work from anywhere and be part of a global team that's passionate about innovation and design excellence.
