Engineer Manager, HR Applications
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
Coinbase is building the world’s most trusted platform for cryptocurrency, empowering millions of people to participate in the digital economy. As the Engineer Manager for HR Applications, you will lead a high‑performing team that designs, builds, and maintains the systems that power our global workforce. Your work will directly impact how employees onboard, manage benefits, and grow within the company, ensuring a seamless experience for over 10,000 staff worldwide. You will collaborate with product, security, and compliance leaders to deliver solutions that meet the highest standards of reliability, scalability, and security in a fast‑moving industry.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will recruit, mentor, and grow a team of HR engineers focused on Workday and related integrations, ensuring the platform evolves to meet business needs. You will oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Workday instance, driving continuous improvement through automation, process redesign, and data quality initiatives. You will partner with internal stakeholders to translate HR requirements into technical solutions, leading the design, development, testing, and deployment of new features. You will manage vendor relationships and RFP processes to secure best‑in‑class HRIS tools and services. You will champion lean and agile practices, fostering a culture of rapid iteration, high quality, and cross‑functional collaboration. You will serve as the primary liaison between security teams and HR technology, ensuring all solutions meet stringent security and compliance standards.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
You bring at least eight years of experience in HR technology, with a minimum of three years managing an applications team that supports core HR functions. You have deep expertise in Workday, including configuration, integrations, and data management, and you are comfortable working with ATS, LMS, and performance systems. You possess a proven track record of building and scaling engineering teams across multiple geographies, including the U.S. and India. You are skilled at communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences, driving alignment and consensus. You have hands‑on experience applying lean, agile, or ITIL principles to streamline workflows and deliver measurable value. You are comfortable partnering with security and compliance teams to design solutions that meet high‑security standards. You are proficient with Jira, Slack, and G Suite, and you hold or are willing to obtain a Workday certification. A passion for cryptocurrency and blockchain, and a strong commitment to Coinbase’s mission of economic freedom, are essential.
WHY REMOTE
Coinbase operates as a remote‑first organization, empowering teams to work from anywhere while maintaining a strong sense of community. Our distributed culture is built on asynchronous collaboration, flexible schedules, and quarterly in‑person “surge” sessions that bring the team together for deep work and alignment. This model allows you to balance personal and professional commitments, while still contributing to a high‑impact, mission‑driven product. The remote environment encourages autonomy, continuous learning, and a focus on outcomes rather than hours spent in front of a screen.
BENEFITS
Coinbase offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes competitive health, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with company match, and a generous paid time off policy. Employees receive a remote work stipend to support home‑office setup, as well as a learning budget for courses, conferences, and certifications. In addition to base salary, you will be eligible for performance bonuses and equity awards that align your success with the company’s growth. All benefits are designed to support your well‑being, professional development, and long‑term success at Coinbase.
