Cloudflare
Systems Engineer - Global Resource Management (Data Residency)
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
Cloudflare is on a mission to help build a better Internet by protecting and accelerating any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. We're a company that values curiosity over bureaucracy and AI as a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward. As a Systems Engineer in our Global Resource Management team, you'll play a critical role in building the customer-facing and internal experience for Data Residency Architecture (DRA), a program that extends data residency across every layer of how Cloudflare stores, processes, and protects customer data.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You'll join a small, high-autonomy team within the DRA program and focus on building the customer-facing and internal experience for DRA. Your responsibilities will include:
- Building per-account API hostname generation and routing to ensure customer requests terminate in their chosen country.
- Modifying the Cloudflare dashboard to route API calls through regional endpoints while surfacing clear regional indicators to the customer.
- Building the account creation flow that captures country/region selection and integrates with the Control Plane Platform orchestrator to provision per-account regional storage and configuration.
- Building admin tooling for support, sales, and finance teams to manage DRA accounts without violating residency constraints.
- Integrating with regional storage, cryptographic key management, and logging infrastructure built by other teams.
- Designing the path from manual provisioning to dashboard self-service and eventually tooling that migrates existing enterprise customers into DRA.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems at scale.
- Proficiency in Go, with experience designing and building REST APIs.
- Comfort with distributed systems tradeoffs, including data locality, replication, consistency models, and latency implications of geographically distributed infrastructure.
- Ability to work across team boundaries and navigate ambiguity, communicate technical tradeoffs clearly, and drive alignment with engineers.
WHY REMOTE
As a remote employee, you'll have the flexibility to work from anywhere and be part of a global team that's passionate about building a better Internet.
BENEFITS
As a Cloudflare employee, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including a comprehensive health plan, parental leave, education stipend, and a competitive salary.
