System Engineer, Cloudflare Hyperdrive

ABOUT THE ROLE The Cloudflare Hyperdrive team is seeking a highly skilled System Engineer to join its geographically distributed team across North America. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering solutions that accelerate database queries from Cloudflare Workers by pooling connections and caching data at the edge. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will own your code from inception to release, delivering solutions at all layers of the software stack to empower Cloudflare customers. Your responsibilities will include writing design documents, fixing bugs, and interacting with a variety of languages and technologies such as Rust, Go, C++, and Typescript. You will work on integrating Hyperdrive directly into the Cloudflare global network, featuring global connection pooling, intelligent query caching, protocol-aware proxying, and seamless integration with existing ORMs and drivers. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need to have 4+ years of professional experience with Rust, Go, or C++. You should be comfortable with the Linux networking stack, including TCP/IP, TLS, and WebSockets. You should also have a deep understanding of databases, including connection lifecycles, transaction states, and wire protocols. Experience with PgBouncer, ProxySQL, or custom database middleware, as well as the Cloudflare Workers ecosystem, would be a plus.
