Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure (Distributed Systems)

As a Staff Software Engineer on our Infrastructure team, you will play a key role in building and operating the distributed systems that train, serve, and secure our AI models. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Software Engineer, you will scope and lead complex, multi-month infrastructure projects, making architectural decisions that shape the foundation for other engineers and teams. You will drive alignment on technical direction across teams, work with research and product teams to understand their infrastructure needs, and turn them into technical designs. You will also own the reliability, scalability, and security of the systems you build as usage and complexity grow. Additionally, you will set technical strategy and standards for your team's infrastructure, build and improve operational processes, and mentor other engineers to help raise the technical bar for the team. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or infrastructure in production. You should have a history of independently scoping and delivering complex, ambiguous, multi-month technical projects. You will also need experience making architectural decisions that other engineers and teams build on. Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one programming language (such as Python, Rust, Go, or Java) are essential. Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code, on AWS and/or GCP is also required. Finally, you will need strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience driving alignment across teams or stakeholders. WHY REMOTE At Anthropic, we value flexibility and autonomy.
