Staff Software Engineer, Datalake Platform

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join Stripe's Datalake Platform team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Stripe's data infrastructure, driving architectural transformations, and influencing technical strategy. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Software Engineer on the Datalake Platform team, you will be responsible for architecting and leading the development of a unified Iceberg platform, driving the metastore migration strategy, shaping the object storage abstraction layer, and leading compliance architecture. You will also be responsible for driving cost and efficiency at petabyte scale, setting the technical bar, and mentoring senior engineers through high-stakes architectural decisions. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - 10+ years of professional software engineering experience - A demonstrated track record of designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed storage or data infrastructure systems - Deep experience with object storage (S3, Azure Blob, or equivalent) including IAM, access control policy design, lifecycle management, and operational practices at petabyte scale - Proven ability to lead complex, multi-quarter infrastructure projects end-to-end, including cross-team dependency management and coordinating migrations across many consuming teams - Strong background in authorization and access control design for distributed data systems WHY REMOTE As a remote employee, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere while being part of a global team that is shaping the future of financial infrastructure.
