As a Staff Software Development Engineer (SDM) on the StrongDM team, you will lead the design and implementation of the platform’s core proxy and control‑plane services. Your work will directly impact the reliability, scalability, and security of the system that protects millions of identities worldwide. You will collaborate with product, architecture, and SRE leaders to translate ambitious business goals into robust, high‑performance engineering solutions. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will architect and ship highly concurrent, distributed backend services in Go, setting engineering standards that ripple across multiple teams. You will evaluate trade‑offs for complex, ambiguous problems, guiding decisions on data‑plane gateways, control‑plane services, and multi‑cloud deployments. You will partner with product managers and DevOps leaders to shape long‑term roadmaps, ensuring technical strategy aligns with business priorities. You will act as the subject‑matter expert on secure network protocols, TLS/mTLS, credential brokering, and key management, embedding best practices across the platform. You will conduct rigorous code and design reviews, enforce a high bar for performance, security, and maintainability, and mentor engineers to adopt those standards independently. You will investigate and resolve the most challenging incidents in production, often requiring deep analysis of distributed systems and cryptographic protocols. You will author and maintain architectural documentation that informs decisions beyond your immediate team, fostering cross‑team alignment. WHAT YOU'LL NEED You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field and have at least 10 years of professional software development experience, with 5+ years in a senior or staff role. You are an expert in distributed systems, concurrency, and cloud architecture, with a proven track record delivering large‑scale, high‑availability services in Go. You possess deep knowledge of secure network protocols, TLS/mTLS, and cryptographic key management, and you can translate that expertise into production‑ready designs. You have a history of leading cross‑team initiatives, setting architectural direction, and mentoring engineers to adopt best practices.
