ABOUT THE ROLE
Fastly is a leading edge cloud platform that enables customers to create great digital experiences quickly, securely, and reliably. We're looking for a Staff Engineer - Edge Protocols to join our team, where you'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the Internet's performance and security.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Staff Engineer - Edge Protocols, you'll be responsible for developing software that interacts with both sides of Fastly, handling incoming client requests and communicating with customers' websites. Your projects will range from implementing new protocols, efficient load balancing, and routing among edge nodes to defending customers from attacks and enhancing security features. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to shape a clear technical roadmap, prioritize key initiatives, and proactively identify and mitigate risks.
You'll write, test, and deploy both C and Rust code, enhance and maintain network software that implements protocols like TLS, HTTP, and QUIC, and contribute to open source projects such as h2o and picotls. You'll also mentor and support the professional growth of engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration within the team.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
To succeed in this role, you'll need to have at least 7 years of domain-relevant engineering experience, a collaborative mindset, and experience working across cross-functional teams. You'll also need significant production experience with coding in C, C++, and/or Rust, as well as experience with Linux systems and network programming. You'll be comfortable working in a geographically distributed team and highly available environments.
