Staff Data Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE Webflow is a leading no‑code web design platform that empowers modern marketing teams to create, manage, and optimise high‑performing web experiences. As a Staff Data Engineer you will drive the architecture and delivery of our data platform, ensuring that the data lake, event ingestion, and governance systems scale to support our growing user base and enable data‑driven decisions across the company. You will collaborate closely with analytics, product, and engineering leaders to shape the future of our data ecosystem, championing reliability, observability, and privacy at every layer. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Design and implement end‑to‑end data pipelines for batch, streaming, and real‑time workloads using Spark, Kafka, Iceberg, and Airflow/MWAA. - Build and maintain cloud data infrastructure on AWS, including EMR on EKS, Druid, and Kafka clusters, with a focus on resilience and performance. - Define and enforce data quality, observability, and governance standards across all pipelines, integrating automated validation and monitoring. - Lead the evolution of event instrumentation, crafting schemas, validation rules, and schema evolution strategies that support cross‑team analytics needs. - Architect and implement centralized PII handling, data retention, deletion, and residency controls to meet GDPR and CCPA requirements. - Mentor junior engineers, drive best‑practice adoption, and collaborate with Analytics Engineering to deliver actionable insights. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or related field. - Minimum five years of professional data engineering experience building production pipelines and platforms. - Deep expertise in Spark, Kafka, and distributed data processing, with a track record of optimizing large‑scale workloads. - Proven experience designing batch, real‑time, and streaming solutions, including CDC and Spark Structured Streaming. - Strong background in data quality, observability, and reliability engineering, with hands‑on experience in monitoring and alerting. - Familiarity with cloud data infrastructure, CI/CD, and infrastructure‑as‑code practices. - Excellent programming and SQL skills, and the ability to translate business requirements into robust, maintainable systems. - Demonstrated leadership on complex initiatives, from architectural design through production delivery, and a collaborative mindset that drives cross‑functional success.
