Staff Backend Engineer - Session Replay | Canada | Remote

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Session Replay squad at Grafana Labs, a 100% remote company with a global collaborative culture. As a technical leader and systems thinker, you will drive the technical direction and architectural evolution of Session Replay, a new Grafana Cloud product that helps customers understand user experiences when issues arise. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Software Engineer, you will operate as a technical leader, driving both product direction and architectural evolution. Your key responsibilities will include: - Owning the end-to-end technical direction for Session Replay, spanning frontend, backend, and data systems - Driving the evolution of our backend architecture, including designing systems around columnar/analytical data storage for large-scale session data and defining data models, ingestion pipelines, and query patterns - Leading the design of investigation workflows, connecting replay with logs, metrics, traces, and other telemetry across Grafana Cloud - Making high-leverage architectural decisions that impact multiple teams and products - Partnering with teams across Grafana to build cohesive cross-product experiences - Engaging directly with customers to gather feedback and help them instrument and adopt Session Replay successfully - Improving engineering standards, patterns, and operational practices within the team - Mentoring engineers and helping grow technical leadership within the team WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - Experience working with data-intensive systems and reasoning about data storage, querying, and cost trade-offs - Comfort working in a remote-first company and communicating effectively with a global team - Ability to own features in ambiguous problem spaces and work independently - Strong understanding of software design principles and patterns - Experience with Go, TypeScript, and React, as well as columnar/analytical data storage and object storage (S3, GCS, Azure Blob Storage) WHY REMOTE As a remote-first company, we value collaboration, friendliness, kindness, and respect.
