Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE The DAP Repository Flows team at GitLab is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer (Ruby) to lead the technical direction and drive complex initiatives across team boundaries. As a key member of the Duo Agent Platform organization within the AI/R&D group, you will set the technical bar for how we build agentic experiences on top of the Duo Agent Platform. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Backend Engineer (Ruby), you will be responsible for setting and driving the technical direction for the DAP Repository Flows team, making architecture decisions that shape how onboarding and repository/background flows are built. You will lead the design and delivery of autonomous and scheduled agents that operate on customer codebases, building on top of the Duo Agent Platform. Additionally, you will design and refine the DAP onboarding experience to ensure customers can get a project configured and productive quickly. You will also partner across teams in the broader DAP organization to align on interfaces, shared patterns, and platform capabilities. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need deep, hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in production systems. You should have demonstrated experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into products and experience building agentic systems: autonomous or semi-autonomous agents that take actions on a user's behalf. A track record of designing and shipping complex, high-scale systems and driving technical direction across teams is also essential. Strong written communication and the ability to operate effectively in a distributed, async-first environment are also required. WHY REMOTE As a remote employee, you will be part of a global team that values autonomy, ownership, and high context sharing. You will work async-first through GitLab issues and Slack, and have the flexibility to work from anywhere. BENEFITS GitLab offers a comprehensive benefits package to support your health, finances, and well-being. This includes benefits such as flexible paid time off, team member resource groups, equity compensation, and a growth and development fund. Additionally, GitLab offers parental leave and a range of other benefits to support your overall well-being.
