Staff Backend Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE We're on a mission to make money work for everyone at Monzo, a pioneering fintech company that's revolutionizing the way people bank. We're looking for a talented Staff Backend Engineer to join our team in the UK. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Backend Engineer, you'll collaborate across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to our customers. You'll work in a squad alongside product managers, marketers, user researchers, designers, mobile engineers, web engineers, data analysts, business analysts, writers, and more to build and support a particular part of Monzo. Our squads belong to our wider collectives, which are self-governing business units of around 100 people, working on innovative projects that often involve machine learning and AI. WHAT YOU'LL NEED We're looking for someone who enjoys learning new things and is passionate about building scalable and maintainable software systems. You'll be working with a variety of technologies, including Go, Cassandra, Kafka, Envoy Proxy, Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS. A degree in Computer Science or a related field is not required, as we value skills and experience over formal qualifications. WHY REMOTE As a remote employee, you'll be part of a distributed team that spans the UK. Our main tech hub is in London, but our engineers live everywhere, from Brighton to the Western Isles. We value meeting in person, but we also believe in the flexibility and autonomy that comes with remote work. BENEFITS As a Staff Backend Engineer at Monzo, you'll receive a competitive salary of £130,000 - £170,000, plus equity and a range of benefits.
