Staff Backend Engineer - Grafana App Platform | UK | Remote

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Backend Engineer to join our Grafana App Platform team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the core architecture of our multi-tenant and scalable platform. This is a unique opportunity to work on a high-growth SaaS platform, refactor existing systems, and shape the roadmap for our opinionated Cloud apps. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff Backend Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include: - Coding new features, enhancing the operational experience of the systems you develop, and iteratively improving them based on production insights - Authoring, contributing to, and reviewing design documents - Taking an active role in shaping the roadmap - Mentoring and supporting other team members and collaborating with different teams across the organization - Owning the experience of our customers by participating in on-call rotations You will have the opportunity to work with modern AI coding assistants, backed by a company-funded usage budget, to iterate quickly without unnecessary friction. Our team encourages pragmatic AI-assisted development, pairing strong code review and quality standards with faster prototyping, test generation, refactors, documentation, and incident follow-ups. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - Strong coding skills and operational experience, with a proven track record of operating software you have built - Experience working on a SaaS platform and dealing with common distributed systems problems, such as scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, HA, etc. - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly in writing and during meetings - Willingness to work across teams, with a focus on transparency, stakeholder engagement, and open feedback - Pragmatic approach, prioritizing progress over perfection, and ability to handle ambiguity - Familiarity with Golang on the backend, or a willingness to learn the language WHY REMOTE As a remote-only company, we bring together talent from around the world, united by a culture of collaboration and shared purpose.
