Staff AI Engineer - 2nd Horizon | Sweden | Remote

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a Staff AI Engineer to join our 2nd Horizon team at Grafana Labs. As a Staff AI Engineer, you will be part of a skunkworks initiative to bring observability to the rest of the business via general data analytics. Our goal is to make Grafana the single best place where humans and AI agents understand and act on data from across the enterprise. You will design, develop, test, and ship AI-powered features that can manage dealing with large datasets, while also expanding the capabilities of analytics-focused AI agents to assist users with information retrieval. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Staff AI Engineer, you will be responsible for building and delivering AI solutions that help users discover, organize, and optimize access to large datasets. You will work in a highly iterative process, quickly prototyping, testing, and validating with real users, including shipping and evolving LLM- or agent-powered workflows for the data engineering lifecycle. You will collaborate with the rest of the team to shape AI-driven product features, including the integration of agentic components with internal tools like Slack and alerting systems while engaging with internal data teams for dogfooding. You will utilize AI tools effectively to enhance both product functionality and your own development workflows. Effective communication is crucial in this role, as you will be working in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment, contributing across teams and taking full ownership of the AI solutions you develop. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need strong engineering skills, with solid experience building production-grade, user-facing software systems. You should be a self-starter, capable of tackling complex engineering problems and making UI design decisions with minimal supervision. You will also need AI experience with a practical mindset, focusing on delivering high-quality solutions that work in the real world, not just in theory. You should be comfortable releasing prototypes, collecting feedback, and iterating with a pragmatic mindset. Proven initiative is essential, as you will take ownership and drive projects forward, pushing boundaries to find the most impactful solutions. You should be able to deal with ambiguity and define scope where things are loosely defined. A collaborative attitude is also required, with effective communication with your peers.
