Sr Backend Engineer, Billing

ABOUT THE ROLE As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Billing team at LaunchDarkly, you will play a critical role in empowering teams to deliver and control software safely. You will own the systems that turn every plan, price, entitlement, and usage limit into revenue, including checkout, subscription and entitlement APIs, usage metering, and integrations to our billing, CRM, and finance systems. Your work will directly impact our customers, ensuring that billing is correct and accurate. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will drive the modernization of our billing platform, leveraging technologies such as Go, TypeScript, Postgres, AWS, and Terraform. Your responsibilities will include: Designing and building systems that define our plans, pricing, entitlements, and limits, and exposing them through our API Decomposing billing from our monolith into services that are correct, testable, and independently deployable Owning correctness end to end, including usage metering, reconciliation, and the invoices and usage data customers see Operating what you build, including SLOs, alerting, on-call, and fixing root causes rather than repeating mitigations WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need: 6+ years of professional software-engineering experience, with significant work on complex backend applications Experience decomposing a monolith A track record on systems where correctness is non-negotiable, and the habits that come with it: idempotency, reconciliation, reversible migrations, and safe cutovers Proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, Rust, Python, etc.) and familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), plus strong production ownership including on-call Bonus: experience with billing, payments, or metering systems, or usage-based pricing, and modeling entitlements, quotas, or multi-tenant limits WHY REMOTE As a remote employee at LaunchDarkly, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere and enjoy a high level of autonomy and trust.
