Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE Airbnb’s Listing Integrity team is at the forefront of protecting millions of hosts and guests from fraudulent listings and financial loss. As a Software Engineer in Trust, you will work within a cross‑functional squad that includes data scientists, product managers, designers, and operations specialists to build scalable systems that detect, prevent, and mitigate bad actors. Your work will directly influence the safety and reliability of the Airbnb marketplace, ensuring that travelers can book with confidence and hosts can focus on delivering authentic experiences. WHAT YOU’LL DO You will design and implement high‑performance backend services that ingest large volumes of listing data, apply rule‑based logic and production‑grade machine learning models, and expose well‑documented APIs for internal teams. You will partner closely with data science and product to refine fraud detection heuristics, turning research prototypes into production‑ready pipelines that run at scale. You will build tooling and automation that empower customer‑service operations to investigate and resolve suspicious listings more efficiently, reducing manual effort and turnaround time. You will also develop user‑facing challenges and verification flows that deter fraud while minimizing friction for legitimate hosts. Finally, you will monitor system health, analyze failure modes, and iterate on architecture to maintain low latency and high availability across Airbnb’s global infrastructure. WHAT YOU’LL NEED You bring at least three years of experience building large‑scale distributed systems, with a strong background in either Ruby/Ruby on Rails, Java, JavaScript, Python, or Scala. You are comfortable writing clean, maintainable code that meets strict performance and reliability standards. You understand the architectural patterns of high‑volume web services, including RESTful APIs, event‑driven pipelines, and efficient data structures. You thrive in collaborative environments, translating business requirements into technical solutions while communicating effectively with non‑technical stakeholders such as legal and operations teams. A passion for user‑centric product design and a desire to work on trust and risk problems are essential. Experience in fraud detection or a related domain is a plus but not required. WHY REMOTE Airbnb embraces a distributed, asynchronous culture that empowers teams to work across time zones while maintaining strong collaboration. Remote employees enjoy flexible schedules that support work‑life balance, and the company provides the tools and processes to keep communication seamless. The remote model allows you to contribute from any U.S. state where Airbnb has a registered entity, giving you the freedom to choose an environment that maximizes your productivity and well‑being. BENEFITS Airbnb offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, a competitive paid time off policy, a generous remote work stipend, and a learning and development budget to support your professional growth. Additional perks include equity, a wellness program, and access to Airbnb’s global network of travel benefits.
