Software Engineer II

ABOUT THE ROLE Iterable is a leading AI-powered customer engagement platform that empowers organizations to activate customer data, design seamless cross-channel interactions, and optimize engagement. As a Software Engineer II on the Developer Platform Team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of customer engagement by improving the Scala, Bazel, and CI foundations that Iterable engineers use every day. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a hands-on engineering role, you will independently own moderate-complexity projects, contribute directly to the Bazel build platform, core Scala libraries shared by services, and partner with product engineering teams to turn recurring developer pain into durable platform improvements. Your work will focus on improving the core developer workflow, contributing to shared engineering foundations, making CI faster and more reliable, creating leverage for product engineers, applying AI to real engineering problems, and partnering across engineering teams. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need strong software engineering fundamentals in Scala, Java, Kotlin, or another production language. You should be comfortable learning deeply, working in shared codebases, and building tools other engineers depend on. Experience with build systems, dependency management, CI, or test infrastructure is valuable, as is familiarity with Bazel, SBT, Maven, Gradle, GitHub Actions, or similar systems. You will also need to be able to debug complex build, test, and developer workflow failures and turn repeated issues into clear fixes, tooling, documentation, or automation. A product-minded approach to developer experience is essential, as is comfort using AI tools such as Cursor, Claude, or similar systems for real engineering work.
