Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE MongoDB’s Networking & Observability team is the backbone of our distributed database, ensuring that every connection, packet, and telemetry signal is reliable, efficient, and visible. As a Software Engineer 3, you will dive into the low‑level networking stack and observability frameworks that power MongoDB Atlas and the open‑source engine. Your work will directly influence the performance, scalability, and diagnosability of the platform that serves millions of customers worldwide. In this role you will collaborate with peers across New York and other remote locations, driving architectural decisions that shape the future of a globally distributed data platform. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will analyze and extend the current networking codebase, identifying bottlenecks and implementing high‑performance, low‑overhead solutions. You will own medium‑sized projects, from technical design through production deployment, ensuring they meet reliability and latency goals. You will integrate OpenTelemetry and other observability tools to surface real‑time metrics, traces, and logs that help teams detect and resolve issues faster. You will conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes. You will collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders, translating business requirements into robust, maintainable code that scales with MongoDB’s growth. WHAT YOU'LL NEED A minimum of three years of experience building distributed systems, with a deep understanding of networking protocols, concurrency, and resource management. Proficiency in C++ and a proven track record of delivering production‑grade code in a fast‑paced environment. Strong computer science fundamentals, particularly in data structures, algorithms, and software architecture. Experience with observability frameworks, OpenTelemetry, or similar tooling is highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with a collaborative mindset and a passion for mentoring peers. A proactive attitude toward learning new technologies and a commitment to MongoDB’s leadership principles. WHY REMOTE MongoDB embraces a distributed, asynchronous culture that empowers engineers to work from anywhere in Canada while staying connected with teammates through regular virtual stand‑ups, design reviews, and informal check‑ins. Our flexible schedule model allows you to balance personal commitments with professional responsibilities, ensuring you can deliver high‑quality work without sacrificing well‑being. Remote teams at MongoDB benefit from a strong sense of community, with virtual coffee chats, hackathons, and cross‑team knowledge sharing that keep collaboration vibrant across time zones. BENEFITS MongoDB offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes competitive health, dental, and vision coverage, a generous paid time off policy, and a remote stipend to support home‑office setup. Employees receive a learning budget for courses, conferences, and certifications, as well as equity and participation in the employee stock purchase program. Our inclusive culture supports parental leave, fertility assistance, and adoption support, ensuring that every team member can thrive both personally and professionally.
