Senior Software Engineer II, Ads Data Solutions Engineering

ABOUT THE ROLE We're seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer II to join our Ads Data Solutions Engineering team at Instacart. As a technical leader, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical roadmap, modernizing our data solutions infrastructure, and scaling off-platform integrations and measurement capabilities. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to build reusable abstractions and deliver high-impact features across our pillars: Off-platform, Data collaboration (cleanrooms), Ads Taxonomy, Platform, and New Initiatives (AI). WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for: - Leading architecture for reusable, scalable systems across off-platform workflows, cleanrooms, taxonomy automation, and the Ads Data Solutions Platform - Evolving core abstractions, testing, CI/CD, observability, and cost efficiency, and proactively driving modernization - Proposing and driving initiatives on behalf of engineering management, aligning stakeholders and managing dependencies - Executing on pillar-specific goals, including expanding and hardening integrations with external advertising platforms, extending cleanroom orchestration and governance tooling, and leading intake automation and release workflow improvements - Contributing to AI-first engineering by using AI-assisted tools daily and identifying opportunities in internal tools and ops - Championing security-by-design, data governance, and privacy compliance across pipelines - Mentoring engineers up to L5 and setting code quality and review standards - Building cross-team partnerships with Ads Manager, Measurement Science, Data Platform, Privacy/Legal, and external platforms WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - 8+ years of software engineering experience, typically 10+ years for this level, delivering and operating large-scale backend/data systems, and leading cross-team projects and architectural decisions - Strong experience in Python and one of Ruby or Go, services/APIs (REST/gRPC), and integrations with third-party APIs - Experience with data pipelines using DBT and Airflow, Spark/Databricks, advanced SQL, and performance tuning - Familiarity with Snowflake and AWS, cost-aware design, workflow orchestration (e.g., Temporal), and event-driven patterns - Experience with ad-tech/programmatic and measurement integrations, cleanrooms (Snowflake DCR, shares/listings), identity/matching (UID2, RampID) and deconfliction - Working knowledge of privacy and compliance practices (GDPR/CCPA) in data workflows WHY REMOTE At Instacart, we're a Flex First team, which means we prioritize flexibility and autonomy in how we work.
