Senior Software Engineer - Grafana Databases, Managed Services | UK | Remote

ABOUT THE ROLE Grafana Labs is a 100% remote company with a global collaborative culture, scaling fast and staying true to its open-source legacy and passion for meaningful work. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Managed Services team, you will take ownership of running critical infrastructure that powers Grafana Cloud's next-generation database products. This is a remote opportunity and we would be interested in applicants living in UK time zones only at this time. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Engineer on Managed Services, you will operate and evolve 100+ multi-cloud streaming clusters and related database infrastructure, diagnose and eliminate cross-layer failure modes, design safe upgrade and rollout strategies at scale, improve observability, automation, and operational ergonomics, partner closely with database and platform teams, and serve as a primary escalation point and on-call for relevant incidents. You will also own the relationship with all system vendors and work directly with distributed systems behavior, Kubernetes scheduling dynamics, storage engines, compression trade-offs, and more. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and database operations - Proven track record of designing and operating high-throughput, multi-cloud infrastructure, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance - Experience with streaming infrastructure, database systems, and related technologies such as WarpStream, Kubernetes, and storage engines - Strong understanding of distributed system realities, including storage latency, partition imbalance, noisy neighbors, and control-plane dependencies - Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and eliminate complex cross-layer failure modes - Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with teammates across regions - Experience with modern AI coding assistants and frontier models, such as GPT-Codex 5/3, Claude Opus 4.6, and Gemini 3 Pro WHY REMOTE As a remote-first company, we provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, so an independent attitude and good communication skills are a must.
