Senior Software Engineer - Grafana Databases, Managed Services | Germany | Remote

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Managed Services team within the Databases department at Grafana Labs. As a Senior Engineer, you will take ownership of running our production-critical infrastructure that powers Grafana Cloud's next-generation database products. This is a remote opportunity, and we are interested in applicants living in German time zones only at this time. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Software Engineer on Managed Services, you will be responsible for operating and evolving our 100+ multi-cloud streaming clusters and related database infrastructure. This involves diagnosing and eliminating cross-layer failure modes, designing safe upgrade and rollout strategies at scale, improving observability, automation, and operational ergonomics, and partnering closely with database and platform teams to ensure safe scaling, partitioning, consumer fan-out, and query performance. You will also serve as a primary escalation point and on-call for relevant incidents, own the relationship with all system vendors, and work closely with counterparts in other regions to provide balanced coverage and shared ownership. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in distributed systems, cloud computing, and software engineering. You should be able to design and implement solutions that ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of high-throughput, multi-cloud infrastructure. Experience with Kubernetes, storage engines, compression trade-offs, and distributed systems behavior is highly desirable. You should also be comfortable working independently and collaboratively as part of a remote team, with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
