Senior Software Developer, Backend

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer, Backend, to join Hootsuite's distributed workforce. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in delivering value to customers through the development of reliable, efficient, and safe software solutions. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Software Developer, Backend, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating our infrastructure platform, as well as providing executable interfaces to our infrastructure platform and tools to support the entire software development lifecycle. Your key responsibilities will include: Writing software tools, libraries, automation, and services Designing and building our infrastructure platform, including identifying and implementing new platform features, researching and evaluating new technologies, and refactoring, rewriting, or retiring existing platform features Operating our developer experience and production application environments, including diagnosing and repairing our distributed systems, performing maintenance, upgrades, and migrations, and controlling or eliminating repetitive tasks, alert noise, and business-as-usual work Enabling development teams by providing executable interfaces to our infrastructure platform and tools to support the entire software development lifecycle Participating in a flexible on-call rotation and communicating by writing documentation, participating in meetings, and showing off your work at demos WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: A degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience working in a software engineering role An ability to write software and working knowledge of software engineering practice, including Java programming language and strong working knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts Proven experience creating stable, reliable, performing, and maintainable code Familiarity with data modeling and schema design Knowledge of data structures and algorithms Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with others to deliver results, think critically, and find solutions to complex problems Preferred skills include working knowledge of Linux systems administration, experience with operating, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure, and an understanding of SaaS software development practice WHY REMOTE Hootsuite's distributed workforce strategy allows for a flexible work arrangement, including a hybrid model that enables you to work from anywhere.
