Senior Platform Software Engineer II

ABOUT THE ROLE As a Senior Platform Software Engineer II at Braze, you will play a critical role in building, maintaining, and evolving the company's internal infrastructure as a service platform. This platform is the backbone of Braze's operations, supporting over 3.3 billion monthly active users across its customers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy scalable and reliable infrastructure solutions that meet the company's strict enterprise-grade SLAs. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a key member of the Platform Software Engineering team, you will be responsible for: - Partnering with Braze's engineering teams to define and implement infrastructure as a service (IaaS) productions that enable them to build and deploy applications quickly. - Developing Braze's embedded frameworks that enable large-scale distributed processing, including designing, building, and operating internal software frameworks that power Braze's asynchronous and background processing systems at massive scale. - Evolving and extending frameworks built on technologies such as Sidekiq to reliably execute trillions of jobs per day across a globally distributed platform. - Owning scaling behavior, reliability guarantees, failure modes, and operational safety of these systems. - Providing opinionated abstractions, tooling, and guardrails that allow application teams to use distributed processing safely without needing to manage underlying complexity. - Improving observability, debuggability, and operational ergonomics for large-scale job-processing systems. - Developing, implementing, and maintaining the software services that provide custom infrastructure services. - Providing centralized/common tooling, services, and automation frameworks that are critical for scaling operations, capacity management. - Reducing operational pain and improving the day-to-day workflow of Braze's engineering teams by building automation into our IaaS platform. - Managing incidents, including being on a PagerDuty rotation to respond to availability incidents and providing support for other engineers. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - 5+ years of full-stack development experience. - A systems thinking approach, considering interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, failure modes, behaviors, and specific implementations. - A strong desire to collaborate, document, and deliver quickly, with experience working asynchronously with global remote teams. - Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a focus on delivering fast to delight customers. - An enthusiastic, go-for-it attitude, with a willingness to solve everyday challenges facing software engineers and automate their toil away. - Experience working on large-scale API-driven systems, application and systems observability, and building/automating Kubernetes-based operators/custom resources.
