Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE GitLab Dedicated is a fully managed, isolated environment that empowers enterprises to ship secure software faster. As a Senior Migration Engineer you will be the technical lead who guides customers from their self‑managed GitLab instances to the Dedicated platform, ensuring a seamless transition that preserves data integrity and operational continuity. Your work will span assessment, planning, replication, cutover, and post‑migration validation, delivering measurable value to Fortune 100 clients and reinforcing GitLab’s reputation for reliability. By leveraging GitLab Geo, Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes, you will design repeatable runbooks that reduce manual effort and accelerate future migrations. Your insights will feed into product improvements, helping shape the next generation of migration tooling and automation. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will deliver end‑to‑end migrations, coordinating with cross‑functional teams to align on timelines, risks, and success criteria. You will use GitLab Geo to replicate data, troubleshoot synchronization issues, and ensure data consistency across environments. You will design and implement network connectivity solutions, including VPCs, private links, DNS, and firewall rules, to meet Dedicated constraints. You will apply infrastructure‑as‑code best practices to validate and manage existing Dedicated environments, ensuring compliance with security and operational standards. You will continuously improve migration scripts, runbooks, and automation, turning lessons learned into reusable assets that increase reliability and speed. WHAT YOU'LL NEED You bring proven experience in customer‑facing migration, installation, or technical advisory engagements, with a track record of delivering complex projects on time. You have deep knowledge of GitLab, Git workflows, and source control best practices, and you can configure and troubleshoot GitLab instances at scale. You are proficient with Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes, and you have hands‑on experience deploying and debugging Kubernetes workloads in production. You have a strong background with at least one major cloud provider—AWS, GCP, or Azure—along with network design and connectivity expertise. You can read, modify, and extend infrastructure tooling in languages such as Go, Python, or Ruby, and you communicate clearly in written and spoken English, building consensus in a distributed, asynchronous environment. WHY REMOTE GitLab’s distributed culture is built on asynchronous collaboration, allowing teams to work across time zones while maintaining high productivity. Remote work empowers you to design your own schedule around peak focus periods, fostering a healthy work‑life balance. The company provides the tools and resources necessary to stay connected, including robust video conferencing, shared knowledge bases, and a culture of transparency that keeps everyone aligned. BENEFITS Competitive health, dental, and vision coverage; generous paid time off and flexible holidays; a remote work stipend for home office setup; a learning and development budget for certifications and courses; equity participation; and a culture that values continuous improvement and innovation.
